Halloween fun day!

Happy Halloween!

We had a Halloween assembly today, we did lots of Halloween dancing. We learned about going trick-or-treating safely. We learned: you have to go with your parents, you could go with a big brother or sister if they are big enough, you could go with Grandma or Grandpa, or we could go with our friends and their family. We shouldn't go into anyone's house who is a stranger, only if they are someone that we know. Finally, we need to be careful walking to houses for trick-or-treating because it can be dangerous crossing the street.

Safe trick-or-treating everyone!

Tuesday October 30

Today we had a lock down! We did an awesome job at sitting quietly until the police and Ms. McLaren came to tell us that that the lockdown was over. In Math Grade 1s worked on showing numbers with dots and by writing number words. In writing we worked on letter 'P'.  We also did some art and are working on drawing pumpkins. At the end of the day we had gym.

Monday October 29th

Today we had music. We also worked on counting on from different numbers in Grade 1 math. In writing we worked on the letter 'O' in grade 1. We all had to rearrange a sentence to make sure it made sense by cutting it and gluing it in the right order- using clues like capital letters, punctuation, and what would make sense. In science we are learning about the seasons, we went on a walk on this lovely autumn day so that we could write and draw about what we see, smell, hear, feel, and even taste in autumn. If you have not yet sent back your form with the distance between the house and the school, please send this back as soon as possible.

Thank you,

Ms. Adamson

Thursday October 25

Important note for Parents,

You will notice on your child's home reading/writing bag that there is a new sticker! This is to inform you on what day your child will be going to the Library to exchange their books. As we are not having a library time and students will only be going two at a time, they have been given a library buddy and a day on which they will go to the library each week. With the help of your child please do your best to bring library books back on their library day so that they can exchange their books. If your child forgets their book on their library day, they will need to wait for their library day the next week to return their book -this will not result in late fees of any kind. Home reading/journals still need to come back on Tuesdays.

Thank you,

Ms. Adamson

Today we started learning about the four seasons, we wrote about some things that we know about each season and drew a picture to go with our writing. We also had to match a weather/season picture with a weather/season activity. We all know that we don't go to the beach when it snows! In math we worked on finding groups of certain numbers and matching the number word with the group. In writing we finished letter N and we wrote a sentence using an N word and drew a picture that matched. Finally we went to gym today.

Wednesday October 24

Today Sritha was star student so she did our calendar for us. In Writing Grade 1s started work with letter N. In Math Grade 1s worked on matching the number with the number word. A couple of students got to share their home journals today! We also learned about peace and cooperation in Social studies today and talked about what peace looks like, what it sounds like, and what is and what is not peace and cooperation. We also worked on building questions using our understanding of Capital letters and punctuation to help us figure out the word order, then created our own pictures to match our questions.

Yesterday:

We had an assembly about our exciting grant from A+ for Energy.  We have decided that we are going to work as a school to try and be more active and help the earth at the same time by trying to walk or bike to school instead of drive. In order to keep track of how far our students are walking every day I am asking you to please let me know the distance between your homes and the school. I am sending home a notice with more information for you, if you could please read and return this notice with the desired information, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Ms Adamson

Monday October 22

It is almost Halloween, we are excited! We listened to a story called 'Lily's Purple Plastic Purse' and then we drew pictures and wrote labels of what we would put in our own special bag. Savroop did our calendar today because she was our Star Student. In Math, Grade 2s did some memory work; Grade 1s worked on numbers one, two and three, writing the word, drawing that number and writing the number. We had a kite story that was all mixed up and we had to put in order. Finally, Ms. Adamson came back and she is going to be our teacher until winter break while Ms. Mazurak is away. A formal notice will also be coming home.
